Bt cotton and pest-resistant plants

Applications in agriculture · Biology

Study notes

Bt cotton covers 95%+ of India's cotton area — pesticide sprays dropped from ~6 to ~2 per season, and farmer incomes rose; but pink bollworm evolved resistance in some regions, showing pests fight back. Bt brinjal was cleared by GEAC in 2009 but frozen by the government in 2010 — India's GM food debate in one vegetable. Golden rice (vitamin A) awaits approval — nutrition vs caution.
