Study notes
Let's trace the growth of a Solanum flower: Step 1: The main stalk (peduncle) starts growing upward. Step 2: Suddenly, at the very top, a flower bud appears. The stalk stops growing upwards. This is the 'Terminal Flower' (the oldest one). Step 3: Because the tip is blocked, the plant produces two new side-stalks just below the terminal flower. Step 4: These two side-stalks also grow until they each end in their own flower bud. Step 5: If the plant is still healthy, it might produce even more side-stalks below those, repeating the pattern. Result: You see a cluster where the oldest flower is right in the center or top, and the younger ones are spreading outwards or downwards.
