Study notes
Let's trace water movement in a Dicot root: Step 1: Water enters through root hairs of the Epiblema. Step 2: It passes through the Cortex cells. Step 3: It reaches the Endodermis. Because of the water-proof Casparian strip, the water is forced to enter the living cells to be filtered. Step 4: It reaches the Pericycle (the thin layer below endodermis). Step 5: Finally, it enters the Xylem bundles. Because it is a Dicot, you will see 4 distinct star-shaped Xylem arms, and water flows up to the stem.
