Let's trace what happens when you touch a 'Touch-me-not' plant (Mimosa pudica). Step 1: Your finger (stimulus) touches the leaf. Step 2: The plant cells at the base of the leaf, called the pulvinus, react. Step 3: These cells suddenly lose water. Step 4: Because there is less water pressure, the cells go limp. Step 5: The leaf folds inward immediately. This is a movement called 'Thigmonasty'.
