Example: Cut open a pear. The hard gritty bits you feel on your teeth are sclereids (stone cells) — a type of sclerenchyma. The soft juicy part is parenchyma storing water and sugar. The soft veins in a leaf stalk are collenchyma supporting the young leaf.
