Diabetes insipidus — the 'other diabetes' — strikes when ADH is missing: patients urinate 15–20 litres a day of dilute urine and are tortured by thirst, cured by ADH nasal spray. It proves the collecting duct's ADH-controlled water reabsorption is the body's main water-saving tap.
