Study notes
A salt gives white ppt with BaCl₂, insoluble in HCl. Identify the anion. Step 1: Ba²⁺ precipitates CO₃²⁻, SO₃²⁻, SO₄²⁻ as white salts. Step 2: BaCO₃ and BaSO₃ dissolve in HCl; BaSO₄ doesn't. Step 3: Insoluble in HCl → SO₄²⁻. Step 4: Confirm: the test is specific — sulphate confirmed!
