Study notes
Classify: Br⁺, :NH₃, AlCl₃, CN⁻ in the bromination of ethene. Step 1: Br⁺ (from Br₂ polarized by π electrons): electron-deficient → electrophile. Step 2: It attacks the π bond first — electrophilic addition. Step 3: :NH₃ has a lone pair → nucleophile (not involved here). Step 4: CN⁻: lone pair donor → nucleophile. AlCl₃: empty p → electrophile (Lewis acid).
