Study notes

Which indicator for titrating acetic acid (weak) with NaOH (strong)? Step 1: Equivalence pH > 7 (CH₃COO⁻ hydrolyses → basic). Step 2: Need indicator changing in basic range: phenolphthalein (8.2–10). Step 3: Methyl orange (3.1–4.4) would change too early — wrong. Step 4: For strong–strong, either works (jump spans 4–10). Match the indicator's flip zone to the titration's jump zone.
