White salt gives white ppt with AgNO₃, soluble in NH₄OH. Identify anion. Step 1: AgNO₃ → white ppt suggests Cl⁻, Br⁻, or CO₃²⁻. Step 2: Soluble in NH₄OH → AgCl dissolves (complex [Ag(NH₃)₂]⁺). Step 3: AgBr partially soluble; Ag₂CO₃ different behaviour. Step 4: Confirmed Cl⁻ — solubility in ammonia is the fingerprint!
