Study notes

For an ideal gas, q_trans = V(2πmkT/h²)^(3/2). Derive the pressure. Step 1: Q = q^N/N!, so lnQ = N·lnq - lnN!. Step 2: lnq contains lnV, so (∂lnQ/∂V) = N/V. Step 3: P = kT·N/V = NkT/V. Step 4: With N = n·N_A and k·N_A = R: PV = nRT — the ideal gas law from pure statistics!
