Study notes
A 14-year-old boy is brought to the dental clinic because he lost his birth certificate and needs to prove his age for a sports competition. The dentist first looks inside the mouth (Clinical Exam) and sees that most permanent teeth are there, but the 2nd molars are still coming out. Next, the dentist takes a large X-ray of all teeth (OPG). Using 'Demirjian’s Method', the dentist looks at the seven teeth on the lower left side. The dentist notices that the root of the canine is finished, but the root of the second molar is only half-grown (Stage F). The dentist adds up the scores for all seven teeth according to a standard table. The total score is 82.4. Looking at the conversion chart, this score matches an age of 14.2 years. The dentist provides a certificate, and the boy is allowed to play in the 'Under-15' category.
