Study notes
An old denture wearer looks aged with drooping mouth corners. What jaw-relation error does this suggest? Loss of vertical dimension (VDO) — the dentures (or worn teeth) no longer hold the face at its proper height, so the lower face collapses: chin approaches nose, lips fold, corners droop. Restoring correct VDO in new dentures re-supports facial height. Students learn to assess this visually before recording jaw relations.
