Secure a database: create role analyst with GRANT SELECT ON sales TO analyst (read-only, no writes); enable TLS for connections; encrypt the data files; mask credit-card columns for analysts; turn on audit logging. A stolen analyst password then yields only masked reads, never writes or dumps.
