Switch: NMOS gate 5V -> channel forms, drain current flows (on); 0V -> off. Amplifier: bias in saturation, small Vgs varies Id. CMOS inverter: PMOS+NMOS, one always off: near-zero static power. Chips use billions of MOSFETs.
