TCP and UDP: reliability, congestion control
Computer Networks · Engineering
Study notes
Download a file via TCP: handshake opens (SYN, SYN-ACK, ACK). Sender transmits segments 1-10; receiver ACKs 10. Segment 11 lost: no ACK, timeout, retransmit 11, halve the congestion window. Slow start doubled the window each RTT initially; after loss, AIMD grows it gently. UDP would just skip the lost piece.
