Transformers: principle and basics

Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering · Engineering

Study notes

A transformer steps 230 V down to 12 V with 1000 primary turns. N2 = N1 x V2/V1 = 1000 x 12/230 = 52 turns. If the secondary delivers 2 A, primary draws 2 x 52/1000 = 0.104 A (ideal). Real transformers add small magnetizing current and losses.
