Water pollution: sources, treatment basics

Environmental Science · Engineering

Study notes

Sewage with BOD 250 mg/L enters a treatment plant. Primary settling removes 35%, leaving 162 mg/L. Activated sludge (secondary) removes 90% of the rest, leaving 16 mg/L, below the 30 mg/L discharge norm. The treated water is then disinfected with chlorine before release.
