Q: Compute mean curvature of sphere radius R and catenoid at neck. Sphere: k₁ = k₂ = 1/R (inward normal): H = 1/R! Catenoid: minimal surface: H = 0 everywhere! Check at neck: principal curvatures ±1/a: H = (1/a-1/a)/2 = 0 ✓! (Soap film between rings: catenoid!)
