Study notes
A 70-year-old blind from cataract sees again after a free camp surgery. Cataract (reversible — 15-minute phaco/SICS) is India's commonest blindness cause — NPCB (National Programme for Control of Blindness) funds free surgeries, school screening (refractive errors — glasses prevent amblyopia), diabetic retinopathy screening, and eye banks. Eye donation (corneas collected within 6 hours of death — most deaths eligible; pledge + family consent): one donor restores two sights. Prevention — vitamin A (xerophthalmia), safety glasses (trauma), diabetes control. The camp's 15 minutes end years of darkness — reversible blindness is a logistics problem.
