Study notes
A surgical wound heals as a thin line; a burn heals contracted and tight. The incision closed by sutures heals by primary intention — minimal tissue loss, thin scar. The burn heals by secondary intention — open wound fills with granulation tissue (pink, granular capillaries + fibroblasts), then myofibroblasts contract it — contraction across a joint needs grafting. Diabetes, infection, and vitamin C deficiency stall the phases; keloids (collagen beyond borders, genetic tendency) are healing overshooting. The scar tells how the wound closed.
