Study notes
A patient with gallstones gets severe upper abdominal pain after fried food. Fatty food triggers CCK, which squeezes the gallbladder — a stone lodged in the neck blocks outflow, pressure builds, the gallbladder inflames (cholecystitis): colicky right-upper pain, often radiating to the shoulder. Ultrasound confirms stones; removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) cures it — bile then drips continuously from the liver, and most patients digest normally.
