Bacterial diseases: typhoid, pneumonia

Study notes
Typhoid Mary (Mary Mallon) — a healthy carrier — infected 51+ people in early 1900s New York while never falling sick herself; she was quarantined 26 years. Typhoid's Widal test is still the developing world's workhorse diagnosis. Pneumonia kills ~2.5 million yearly — the pneumococcal vaccine (PCV) given to infants prevents the deadliest form.
