Ear: structure and mechanism of hearing

Study notes
A toddler with repeated ear infections may get 'glue ear' — fluid behind the eardrum muffles hearing until it drains. Concert-goers' ringing ears (tinnitus) are overworked hair cells complaining; prolonged exposure kills them permanently — the reason earplugs exist. Divers equalize pressure by pinching the nose and blowing, forcing air up the Eustachian tube.
