Study notes

A blocked nose makes food taste bland — smell contributes ~80% of flavour; taste buds alone detect only sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami. Supertasters (extra-dense taste buds) find broccoli and coffee unbearably bitter. Perfume ads work because smell wires directly to memory and emotion — one whiff of a childhood scent recalls whole scenes.
