Osmosis and osmotic pressure

Study notes
Put a raisin in water and it swells as water enters by osmosis; put it in concentrated sugar syrup and it shrivels as water leaves. Red blood cells burst (haemolysis) in pure water but shrink (crenation) in very salty water — which is why IV drips must match blood's salt concentration.
