Example: When your pancreas must release insulin after a meal, ribosomes on the RER read insulin mRNA and link amino acids into the insulin chain — about 200 amino acids joined per minute per ribosome. Antibiotics like streptomycin kill bacteria by jamming their 70S ribosomes while leaving our 80S ribosomes alone.
