Study notes
How much heat is needed to melt 50 g of ice at 0°C into water at 0°C? Step 1: Use Q = m × L, with L (fusion of ice) = 334 J/g. Step 2: Q = 50 g × 334 J/g = 16,700 J. Step 3: Temperature stays 0°C — all heat breaks bonds, none raises temperature. Answer: 16,700 J (16.7 kJ) of heat is absorbed as latent heat.
