Make 1-propanol from propene. Which route? Step 1: Acid hydration (Markovnikov) → 2-propanol — WRONG isomer! Step 2: Hydroboration–oxidation: B₂H₆ then H₂O₂/OH⁻ → anti-Markovnikov → 1-propanol. Correct! Step 3: Oxymercuration would also give Markovnikov (2-propanol). Step 4: For anti-Markovnikov alcohol, hydroboration is the tool. Choose it!
