Endodontic diagnosis: pulp vitality tests, radiographic assessment
Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
A tooth gives no response to cold or EPT, and X-ray shows a dark halo at the root tip. What is the diagnosis? Necrotic (non-vital) pulp with apical periodontitis — the absent responses indicate dead pulp, and the periapical radiolucency shows bone response to infection exiting the root tip. Students learn to correlate: tests assess the pulp inside, radiographs show the tissues beyond the root — together they complete the picture.
