Study notes
A diabetic patient's gum treatment keeps failing despite good cleaning. What systemic step matters? Glycemic control - the two-way street means uncontrolled blood sugar fuels periodontal breakdown while the gum infection raises blood sugar. Students learn the medical-dental handshake: the dentist treats the gums and refers for diabetes review; the physician's control determines the periodontal prognosis - neither works alone.
