Trauma basics: first aid, hemorrhage control
General Medicine and General Surgery (for BDS) · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
A tooth is knocked out on the sports field. What does the bystander do? Pick it by the crown (never the root), rinse briefly, replant if confident or store in cold milk, and reach a dentist within 30 minutes - the field action decides the tooth's fate. Students learn first aid's empowerment: the trained bystander is the first responder - pressure stops bleeding, positioning opens airways, and milk saves teeth before any professional arrives.
