Diabetic for surgery — sugars optimized, morning insulin held; safe surgery. Preoperative (history — comorbidities, drugs, allergies; airway — Mallampati; investigations — targeted; optimize — HbA1c, BP; NPO — solids 6–8h, clears 2h; consent — informed; ASA — I–V, E): perioperative (antibiotics — <60min incision; DVT — stockings/heparin; normothermia — warming; glucose — control; beta-blockers — continue). The NPO rule is 6-8/2 — aspiration prevention.
