Study notes
A mole darkens, its border turns irregular, and it starts itching. This is the ABCDE alarm for melanoma — Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter >6mm, Evolution (change). Melanoma kills by early metastasis — excision with margins cures thin lesions; thick ones need sentinel node biopsy and immunotherapy. Sun exposure (especially childhood burns) is the modifiable risk; sunscreen and shade prevent. Any changing mole is biopsied — evolution alone justifies it.
