Exodontia: indications, techniques, forceps and elevators
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
Why is a detailed medical history taken before even a simple extraction? Because systemic conditions change the plan: blood thinners affect bleeding, bisphosphonates affect bone healing, heart conditions may need antibiotic prophylaxis, and uncontrolled diabetes or blood pressure may postpone the procedure. Students learn exodontia's first instrument is the history sheet - the extraction is planned on paper before forceps touch the tooth.
