Maxillofacial trauma: soft tissue injuries, dentoalveolar fractures
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery · Dental (BDS)
Study notes
A lip laceration crosses the vermilion border after a fall. Why does closure need special care? The vermilion border is a cosmetic landmark - even 1 mm misalignment shows permanently. Students learn trauma aesthetics: align landmarks first (vermilion, eyebrow), then close layers; and dentoalveolar fractures (mobile tooth-bearing segments) are repositioned and splinted like luxated teeth - because the teeth are carried by the bone.
