Study notes
Why is parotid surgery famous for nerve monitoring? The facial nerve runs through the parotid gland, dividing it into superficial and deep lobes - tumour removal must dissect the nerve's branches free, and injury causes facial paralysis. Students learn parotidectomy's defining discipline: find the nerve trunk first, then remove the gland around it - the nerve is the operation's map.
