Dislocations: shoulder, elbow, hip
Orthopedics · MBBS
Study notes
A fall — shoulder squared off, arm abducted; anterior dislocation; Kocher's reduces. Dislocations: shoulder (commonest — anterior — arm abducted, externally rotated — squared off: reduce — Kocher's/Hippocratic; check axillary nerve — deltoid; recurrent — Bankart lesion — surgical repair), elbow (posterior — children — fall: check brachial artery — pulseless — emergency; reduce — traction), hip (posterior — dashboard injury — leg shortened, internally rotated: sciatic nerve — foot drop; reduce <6h — AVN risk; anterior — abducted externally), others (patella — lateral — reduce; MCP — thumb). Always X-ray — rule out fracture-dislocation; neurovascular before/after. The squared shoulder is anterior dislocation — reduce promptly.
