Study notes
A dying burn victim names her attacker to the magistrate — the statement convicts. Dying declaration (recorded when death is believed imminent) is admissible without oath or cross-examination — the law presumes truth at death's door. Doctors certify the declarant is compos mentis (fit to state); magistrates preferably record. Multiple consistent declarations strengthen; contradictions weaken. The voice from the threshold carries — medicine's certification gives it legal life.
