A smoker with uncontrolled diabetes wants implants. Why pause? Both impair osseointegration and invite peri-implantitis - the honest plan stabilizes diabetes and stops smoking first, or declines. Students learn selection as prognosis: implants don't fail randomly; they fail in poorly selected cases - the case-selection appointment (with its right to say no) is the most important implant procedure.
