Toxicology: snakebite and scorpion sting, plant poisons
Forensic Medicine and Toxicology · MBBS
Study notes
A krait bite at night — painless; morning brings ptosis and breathing difficulty. Krait (neurotoxic — painless nocturnal bite) paralyzes: ptosis → dysphagia → respiratory failure; neostigmine + atropine may help (cobra more than krait); ventilation bridges to recovery — ASV (polyvalent antivenom) on envenomation signs. Viper (vasculotoxic — Russell's/saw-scaled): pain, swelling, bleeding, 20WBCT prolonged — ASV + blood products. Identify the syndrome, not the snake — the toxidrome prescribes.
