Neurology: febrile seizures, epilepsy, cerebral palsy

A 2-year-old — generalized seizure with fever, 3 minutes; simple febrile; reassurance. Febrile seizures (6mo–5yr — fever — simple: generalized, <15 min, once/24h — benign — reassure, antipyretics; complex — focal/prolonged/recurrent — evaluate): epilepsy (recurrent unprovoked — EEG — classify; treat — valproate — generalized, carbamazepine — focal; 2 years seizure-free — taper; status epilepticus — >5 min — lorazepam IV/buccal midazolam → phenytoin → refractory — midazolam infusion — ICU). Cerebral palsy (non-progressive motor disorder — perinatal insult — spastic — diplegia commonest: physiotherapy, orthotics, botulinum; associated — epilepsy, intellectual). The brief febrile seizure is benign — prolonged needs lorazepam.
